I usually try to find the cheapest flights possible when I travel and when it's international travel, that often means I'll have a few lengthy layovers. While that adds more time and inconvenience, it can sometimes add an extra adventure opportunity. If the layover is long enough, I can sometimes leave the airport to get a brief cultural experience and maybe taste a bit of the local food. It all depends on what the visa requirements might be, time of day and availability of public transportation.
I'll have a layover in Panama City, Panama on my way to Chili and a layover in Batoga, Columbia on my way home. I haven't yet looked into the possibility of being able to leave either of these airports to explore those cities. Will I need a special visa to leave the airport? Will I be able to easily take a bus or train from the airport into the city? I'll find out. In the meantime, I think it might be fun for you to look up the flags of Panama, Columbia, and Chili. As Texans, I think you will find one of them very interesting. To earn more house points tell me which one looks very familiar to you and why.

Time to Win Some House Points
My hike through the Patagonia mountains of Chili is just a few weeks away. In the meantime, you should keep an eye on this blog for opportunities to earn house points. In these final weeks before I head to the southern most tip of South America, other BOMLA teachers will be posting short video lessons about Chile, Patagonia and other topics related to our global citizenship. Answer their questions and you can earn house points.
Today, I'm posting some pictures of the wildlife in the Patagonia regions of southern Chili where I will be hiking for five days. Be one of the first ten to correctly identify these Patagonia locals and earn 100 house points for each correct answer.
Don't forget to identify your house when you reply to this post with your answers.
